Course Description

This e-learning course is designed for security managers in government institutions in South Africa, who are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of their respective institutions. The course covers the fundamental principles of security threat and risk assessment, which will enable learners to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities to their institutions and develop appropriate measures to mitigate them.

The course will cover topics such as risk assessment methodologies, threat assessment techniques, identifying vulnerabilities and assets, risk analysis, and risk management strategies. Participants will be introduced to the legal and ethical considerations that underpin security assessments in South Africa and will learn how to apply these principles to their own institutions.

Throughout the course, learners will engage with practical examples to develop practical skills in security threat and risk assessment. Participants will learn to apply their newly acquired knowledge to develop customized security risk management implementation plans that can be implemented in their respective institutions.

While the main target group for the course is security managers in the public sector, the skills and knowledge acquired during the course can also be used by security managers in the private sector. The course will provide participants with a valuable toolkit for conducting security threat and risk assessments in any institution.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

Identify potential security threats and vulnerabilities to their institutions
Conduct a comprehensive security threat and risk assessment using established methodologies

Duration: The course is self-paced and can be completed within two weeks.

Prerequisites: Participants are expected to have basic knowledge of security management concepts and must have completed the Vision DCI “Introduction to Protective Security (Advanced)” course.

Assessment: Participants will be assessed through quizzes, assignments, and a final project where they will be required to conduct a security threat and risk assessment at their respective institutions.

Certification: Participants who successfully complete the course will be awarded a certificate of completion from Vision DCI.

Enrollment: Enrollment is open to security managers in government institutions in South Africa and private security managers who wish to develop their skills in security threat and risk assessment.
