Introduction to Information Security (Advanced)

Course Description

This e-learning course is designed for security managers in government institutions in South Africa who are responsible for managing the security of their institution’s information assets. The course provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of the basic principles and best practices for managing information security in an institution.
 
The course covers topics such as information security management, identifying information that requires protection, the classification of information, and legislative requirements for the protection of information. Participants will learn how to identify information that requires protection, develop information security policies and procedures, and implement effective information security controls that align with their institution’s objectives (including the implementation of a classification system).
 
Throughout the course, participants will engage with practical examples and real-world scenarios to develop practical skills in information security management. Participants will learn how to apply their newly acquired knowledge to identify vulnerabilities in their institutions and develop customised information security solutions that can mitigate potential risks.
 
While the main target group for the course is security managers in the public sector, the skills and knowledge acquired during the course can also be used by security managers in the private sector. The course provides participants with a valuable toolkit for enhancing their knowledge of information security concepts in any institution.
 
Learning Outcomes: By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
