Course Description
This e-learning course is designed for security managers in government institutions in South Africa who are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of their respective institutions. The course provides learners with a comprehensive understanding of the basic principles and best practices for managing protective security in an institution.
The course covers topics such as security risk management, security policy and planning, security responsibilities, security personnel and components, and security awareness. Participants will learn about the importance of assessing security risks, developing security plans, and implementing effective security measures that align with their institution’s objectives.
Throughout the course, learners will engage with practical examples and real-world scenarios to develop practical skills in protective security management.
While the main target group for the course is security managers in the public sector, the skills and knowledge acquired during the course can also be used by security managers in the private sector. The course provides participants with a valuable toolkit for enhancing their knowledge of basic security management concepts in any institution.
Learning Outcomes: By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
Understand the basic principles of protective security management
Understand the difference between protective security and national security and the relation between the two concepts
Understand the importance of security risk management and developing customized security policies and plans
Understand the security responsibilities of different staff members and components of their institutions
Understand the importance of promoting security awareness in their institutions
Duration: The course is self-paced and can be completed within one week.
Prerequisites: No formal prerequisites are required for this course. Please note that completion of this course is a prerequisite for enrollment for any of the other advanced courses presented by Vision DCI.
Assessment: Participants will be assessed through quizzes and assignments.
Certification: Participants who successfully complete the course will be awarded a certificate of completion by Vision DCI.
Enrollment: Enrollment is open to security managers in government institutions in South Africa and private security managers who wish to enhance their knowledge of basic security management concepts.

First of all, I will like to thank Vision DCI for providing us ( security practitioners) with this type of courses. This was my first course with your institution and I should say, at the beginning I had doubts especially when I saw that all learning activities take place online. But after the experience I had from enrolling for Introduction to protective security , I have realised how much I was wrong. This is actually one of the best security courses I have ever attended. It is very informative and has contributed a lot in the knowledge and the experience which I always had. The course materials are of a good quality and the content is structured very well which makes it easy to read and understand. I want to thank you once more for the support you gave me through out the course and after.
